The Alamo City Mercy Foundation was established in July 2002. David Walker, pastor of Alamo City Christian Fellowship in San Antonio, TX, had a burden to develop a ministry that would fulfill Matthew 25 “…feed the hungry, clothe the naked and visit the prisoner.” He called his friend, Billy Hobbs, who was Director of Faith City Mission in Amarillo, TX, and asked him to pray about overseeing this. Believing the Lord had spoken, Billy and his wife Kristi moved back to San Antonio to begin this new ministry.
ACMF, through contributions given by the general public, began helping single mothers pay bills, purchasing food from the Food Bank to give to those who were down and out, and putting families up in hotel rooms. Then in January 2003, the Lord expanded the vision. Following their first trip to Africa with Sammy and Tex Tippit, Billy and Kristi felt that God was calling the Mercy Foundation to be a vital part of the Great Commission “…go into all the world and make disciples of all nations.” Matt. 28:19. They began traveling to countries such as India, Brazil, Haiti, Mexico and back to Africa sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ. ACMF has financially supported ministries in many of those countries.
On August 21, 2004 the Lord took Billy Hobbs home to Heaven. Through the encouragement of David Walker and Sammy Tippit, and the calling of the Lord, Kristi continues the vision.
