Pastor Peter and Jemimah Njao, of Nairobi, Kenya, and Kristi Hobbs had a God-given desire to build an orphanage for the “chokoras” — children of the dirt, those orphaned as a result of AIDS, in memory of their friend and husband, Billy Hobbs. The Mercy Foundation is providing direction and funding, while the Njao’s are providing oversight for the project.

In January 2006 five acres of land, 30 miles SW of Kenya’s capital city of Nairobi, was purchased for the site of the “JESUS. Hobbs House of Hope” Orphanage. A water well, supplying clean drinking water was dug in 2007. In 2008, construction was completed on Phase 1, consisting of an administration building, classroom and dining hall as well as the first dormitory which houses 28 orphans. In addition to these buildings, staff housing, chicken houses, rabbit hutches and a cow pen all built by mission teams are in place.

In January of 2009 the first 24 orphans arrived. They not only reside at the J.HHH, but are also receiving an excellent education at the House of Hope Academy located on the property. In July 2009 a down payment was made on another five acres adjacent to the property.

The Mercy Foundation hosts groups wishing to take short term mission trips to help with construction and ministry at the “JESUS. Hobbs House of Hope Orphanage.” Four groups from three different churches have taken trips to the J.HHH since 2007.
